This panel brings together a few active translators of French-language texts to talk about their recent work, in a variety of genres (including critical theory, prose fiction, graphic novels, poetry, etc.). Panelists Matt Smith (translator of authors Jean-Philippe Toussaint, Jacques Roubaud, and Frédéric Forte), Chris Clarke (member of the translation collective OuTransPo), Rachel Galvin (member of the translation collective OuTransPo), and Helge Dascher (translator for the graphic novel publisher, Drawn & Quarterly) will each discuss recent translations and the challenges they posed, before moving into a discussion about translation today: the art, the practice, and the industry.

Matt Smith is Assistant Professor at Northern Illinois University.
Chris Clarke is Lecturer at University of Pennsylvania.
Rachel Galvin is Associate Professor at the University of Chicago.
Helge Dascher is Translator at Drawn & Quarterly Press.
Aubrey Gabel is Assistant Professor of French at Columbia.
