Panelists discuss how the French model of integration is responding to the growing diversity within French society. They explore some of the findings of a new large-scale study co-authored by Patrick Simon for the INED, Trajectoires et origines, which traces the social trajectories of 1st and 2nd generation immigrants in France through their experiences with education, employment, family formation, identity formation, and experiences of discrimination.
Patrick Simon is a Directeur de recherche at the Institut national d’etudes démographiques in Paris and is an ARC Distinguished Fellow at the CUNY Graduate Center. Riva Kastoryano is a sociologist at Sciences Po and author of Negotiating Identities: States and Immigrants in France and Germany (Princeton UP). Andreas Wimmer is the Lieber Professor of Sociology and Political Philosophy and a member of the Committee on Global Thought at Columbia. Alexander Stille is the San Paolo Professor of International Journalism at Columbia Journalism School.
