Documentary screening and Q&A with director Isabelle Wekstein-Steg, in conversation with Emmanuelle Saada
In this documentary, directors Mohamed Ulad and Isabelle Wekstein-Steg interviewed French high-school students, many of them first- second- or third- generation immigrants of African or North African origin, living in the banlieues outside of Paris, about their sense of identity and belonging within French society. In one memorable scene, students are asked “Who is French?” and everyone raises their hand; but when asked “Who feels French?” not a single hand goes up.
