This documentary is an exploration of a Parisian building that is layered with the memories of human lives. Zylberman reconstituted the stories of most of the families who lived at 209 Saint-Maur through interviews with children who survived the war. Through roundups and deportation during the German occupation, the terror of hiding and final return to light: the evocative power of the film transforms history into a palpable experience. Although the past and its mixture of mourning, loss and survival may resurface, it can never be recovered.
This event is funded by the Knapp Family Foundation.
